Daily Sun : –The paint industry plays an important role in the country’s infrastructure development by ensuring protection and longevity to the structure. The country’s paint industry has been growing fast keeping in pace with the country’s development activities.To meet the growing demand of consumption, Asian Paints, a multinational paint manufacturer and one of the country’s largest paint industries, plans to expand its business in Bangladesh by setting up its second manufacturing plant at Mirsharai in Chittagong.
Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) has recently awarded 20 acres of land to Asian Paints in Mirsharai Economic Zone in Chittagong to set up a second modern manufacturing unit as part of its business expansion plan.
Expressing their plan of expansion in Bangladesh, Asian Paints Bangladesh Ltd. Country Head Ritesh Doshi said that they are going to expand their business in Bangladesh owing to the growing demand of paints in the country. The second manufacturing unit, Doshi said, will be global standard having state-of-the- art facilities.
“Bangladesh is doing very good and becomes one of the fastest growing countries in the world in various indicators. We see big opportunity here in Bangladesh,” said Ritesh Doshi adding that they have already a plant running in Gazipur and are going to set up a very large manufacturing plant in Mirsharai.The capacity of Asian Paint in Gazipur plant has already reached its maximum level and to meet the growing demand of the customers, the Asian Paints is going to set up another factory, he added. Narrating the state-of-the-art quality of the Asian Paints products, Doshi said that they are very much strict about the quality of their products.
Asian Paints is one of the largest Indian paint company and manufacturer, offering a wide range of painting and waterproofing solutions for homes, offices and more. The company is operating business in 16 countries having 25 manufacturing units across the world.
Asian Paints Bangladesh Ltd. started its journey in the year 2002 as a joint venture with Confidence Cement to produce top class range of paints for the discerning consumers of Bangladesh.
Now the company is manufacturing and distributing a wide range of high-performing decorative, marine and industrial paint product with its expertise and cutting edge technology to satisfy all the painting needs of consumers in Bangladesh.
“I can guarantee you that all our products are best in qualities, we are putting our best efforts on product development and bringing the latest technology in the product line. For example, there are big demands of water proof paints. Considering the long lasting fact, we are trying to bring fibre technology to produce some paints which can give five years water proof paint guarantee”, said Ritesh Doshi.
Mentioning the factors behind their business success around the world, he said that Asian Paints basically follow two guiding principles which are customer service and innovation.
“During our 75 years of operation across the world, we are very much customer service oriented and always try to realise the needs, demands and nature of works relating to customers. Secondly, we do focus on lot of innovations, so whatever we do whether it’s our products, service, store, we always be in cutting edge in terms of innovations” said the country head.
He pointed out that they have a wide range of products including some very premium products.
“There is not much difference in pricing with the other companies but the products that we are bringing in terms of quality are quite good”, added Ritesh Doshi.
About the success of multi-national companies in Bangladesh, he said that not only the MNCs, but there are many local companies which are doing extremely well in the market. He thinks that companies that understand the consumers need are able to do better.
Asian Paints recently introduced an innovative store concept namely ‘Color Idea store’. Asked about the concept he said that it is a store concept and as well as a retailing concept.
“It was being done for the first time in the country, typically in Bangladesh you have the hardware store or paint store, with a very traditional look and feel. We have tried to put in a new concept in bringing a modern concept in the entire store which is the ‘color idea store”, he said adding that they have set two stores on pilot basis.
The response of the color idea concept is quite good and the kind of response that received from the consumers is really encouraging and looking forward to expanding across the country soon, he continued.
Apart from the business, Asian Paints Bangladesh is also conducting some fantastic job including introducing painters’ skill development programme.
“Asian Paints is working with a selected batch of painters under the programme. We train them technical skills as well as life skills. For this programme, we have tied up with national skill development council”, he said adding that it is the first time by any paint company introduces such programme from the inspiration of innovation.
Talking about the challenge, he answered that there is always a challenge and it’s an opportunity too.
